Design principles
A second circuit is not always a diverse circuit.
Two wired carriers can still share conduit, poles, central offices, or local power dependencies. Satellite and cellular can add physical-path diversity, while SD-WAN can control when and how critical traffic moves.
- Identify revenue-critical applications and acceptable downtime
- Map current carriers, entrances, equipment, and power dependencies
- Select a diverse backup path with enough practical capacity
- Define health checks, failover rules, and traffic priorities
- Test the recovery process before an actual outage
